How to read the F-150 ratings
The hybrid, listed as F150 Pickup 2WD HEV and 4WD HEV with a 3.5-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder, has the best 2026 ratings: 24 combined mpg with 2WD and 23 with 4WD. Without the hybrid, the 2.7-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder is rated 21 combined with 2WD and 20 with 4WD, the 3.5-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder 20 and 19, and the 5.0-liter 8-cylinder 19 either way.
The off-road and performance listings are rated lower: the Tremor 4WD at 18 combined with the 3.5-liter and 17 with the 5.0-liter, the Raptor 4WD at 16 and the Raptor R 4WD, with a 5.2-liter supercharged 8-cylinder, at 12. Every listing uses the Automatic (S10) transmission, and the 4WD listings are shown as part-time 4-wheel drive.
Fueleconomy.gov does not list 2027 F-150 ratings yet. As of November 3, 2026, its 2027 Ford listings cover the Explorer and Expedition, so the 2026 figures above are the latest F-150 ratings.
From the 2025, 2026 and 2027 Ford model listings and the 2025 and 2026 F150 records on fueleconomy.gov (U.S. DOE/EPA), read November 3, 2026.
What lowers real-world F-150 MPG
EPA ratings come from standardized tests designed to reflect typical driving conditions and driver behavior. Fueleconomy.gov says the ratings are a useful tool for comparing vehicles but may not accurately predict the average MPG you will get. It lists factors including:
How you drive
Aggressive driving (speeding, rapid acceleration and braking) can lower gas mileage by roughly 15% to 30% at highway speeds and 10% to 40% in stop-and-go traffic. Excessive idling also lowers MPG.
Cold weather and short trips
Your engine does not operate efficiently until it is warmed up, and in colder weather it takes longer to warm. Letting the car idle to warm up does not help fuel economy.
Roof cargo, towing and weight
Cargo boxes and other roof cargo add aerodynamic drag, and towing or carrying excessive weight lowers fuel economy. Test vehicles are assumed to carry only 300 pounds of passengers and cargo.
Using 4-wheel drive
Four-wheel drive vehicles are tested in 2-wheel drive. Engaging all four wheels makes the engine work harder and increases transfer case and differential losses, so it reduces fuel economy.
Terrain and speed
Hilly or mountainous terrain and unpaved roads can reduce fuel economy; the EPA test assumes flat ground. The tests account for aerodynamic drag up to highway speeds of 80 mph.
Maintenance
A poorly tuned engine burns more fuel, improperly aligned or inflated tires increase rolling resistance, and brake drag can make the engine work harder.
Fuel and break-in
Gasoline with 10% ethanol decreases fuel economy by 3% to 4%, and new vehicles will not reach their optimal fuel economy until the engine has broken in, which may take 3,000 to 5,000 miles.

Ford F-150 MPG FAQ
What gas mileage does a 2026 Ford F-150 get?
Fueleconomy.gov rates the standard 2026 F150 Pickup 2WD and 4WD listings, including the hybrid, from 19 to 24 combined mpg. The 2WD hybrid with the 3.5-liter turbo 6-cylinder is rated 23 city, 25 highway and 24 combined mpg; the 2.7-liter turbo 6-cylinder 2WD 19/25/21; and the 5.0-liter 8-cylinder 19 combined in 2WD or 4WD. The Tremor, Raptor and Raptor R listings are rated 12 to 18 combined.
Which F-150 gets the best gas mileage?
For 2026, the F150 Pickup 2WD HEV (the hybrid with rear-wheel drive) has the best ratings: 23 city, 25 highway and 24 combined mpg. Without the hybrid, the 2.7-liter turbo 6-cylinder 2WD is best at 21 combined.
How much MPG does 4WD cost on an F-150?
It depends on the engine. For 2026, the hybrid goes from 24 combined mpg with 2WD to 23 with 4WD, the 2.7-liter from 21 to 20, and the 3.5-liter turbo from 20 to 19. The 5.0-liter 8-cylinder is rated 19 combined either way.
What MPG does the F-150 hybrid get?
Fueleconomy.gov lists the 2026 F-150 hybrid, with a 3.5-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder, at 23 city, 25 highway and 24 combined mpg with 2WD and 22 city, 24 highway and 23 combined mpg with 4WD.
What MPG do the F-150 Raptor and Raptor R get?
For 2026, fueleconomy.gov lists the F150 RAPTOR 4WD (3.5-liter turbo 6-cylinder) at 14 city, 18 highway and 16 combined mpg, and the F150 RAPTOR R 4WD (5.2-liter supercharged 8-cylinder) at 10 city, 15 highway and 12 combined mpg. The Raptor R is the only 2026 F-150 listing that shows premium gasoline.
Did the F-150 MPG change from 2025 to 2026?
Mostly not. Fueleconomy.gov adds a 2WD hybrid listing for 2026 (24 combined) that it does not show for 2025, and the 3.5-liter turbo 4WD goes from 16 city and 24 highway in 2025 to 17 city and 23 highway in 2026, still 19 combined. The other gasoline and hybrid listings have the same ratings in both years.
Is there a 2027 F-150 MPG rating yet?
As of November 3, 2026, fueleconomy.gov lists 2027 Ford ratings for the Explorer and Expedition, but not yet for the F-150, so the 2026 figures are the latest.
What fuel does the F-150 use?
Every 2025 and 2026 F-150 gasoline and hybrid listing on fueleconomy.gov shows regular gasoline except the F150 RAPTOR R 4WD, which shows premium gasoline.
What does The Works at Michigan City Ford include?
The Works® at Michigan City Ford includes a synthetic blend oil change, tire rotation and pressure check, brake inspection, Multi-Point Inspection, fluid top-off, battery test, and a filter, belts and hoses check.
